A Little Bit About Us
What began as a retreat for Maine Girl Scout leaders over 30 years ago has evolved into an adventure open to all women, 18 years of age and older.
It was in 1988 that our Board of Advisors was formed and, at that point, Women's Camp came into its own. Today, women from all over New England and beyond, including those who have never been Girl Scouts, enjoy the Women's Camp experience.
The Board of Advisors, women from all walks of life, each having their own set of unique experiences and talents, share the responsibility of organizing events and planning activities.
Women’s Camp is financially independent of any other organization and is not a branch of the Girl Scouts. Most of our events are held at Girl Scout properties and Girl Scout insurance covers Women's Camp participants during those events. This is why all participants must enroll as adult Scouts during one of our paid sessions. Each year, our organization makes a capital donation to the Girl Scouts to be put towards upkeep of the camps.

Benefit Auction:The Eunice Anderson Campership Fund provides financial assistance to women who wish to attend Women's Camp but who cannot afford the entire fee. At most Women's Camp events there are live and 'silent' auctions where 100% of the proceeds goes directly to this fund. Items to be auctioned are donated by campers. Participation is voluntary and no donation is too big or too small. The auctions are always a lot of fun and a great opportunity to clean out that closet or basement. Hand-made items are also appreciated.
Special Needs:Most of the camps we use are handicapped accessible. On occasion, we do encounter limited access facilities. However, we have found that with a little creativity and a can-do spirit, most obsticals can be overcome.
If you have any specific dietary, physical or health needs that must be met, please fill out the contact form on our Home page or send the information with your registration form. We will do whatever we can to accomodate you. Guests:Guests are welcome at Women's Camp as long as they are female, 18 or older, and arrangements have been made in advance. They will be charged for meals, lodging and activities.
Alcohol / Smoking Policies:Smoking and Alcohol are not permitted on Girl Scout properties and we must abide by their policies. There can be no exceptions to these policies.
| We always try to give a little back:
At every event there will be an opportunity to volunteer as we try to leave the camp a little better than we found it. It could be washing windows, planting shrubs and trees, painting and fixing whatever needs repair.
Camp Kapers:We have no maids, housekeepers or custodians at camp, allowing us to keep camp fees affordable. So, it is up to all of us to pitch in and help.
Like any camp or household, in order for things to stay clean and functioning, certain jobs need to be done on a daily basis. All participants are asked to volunteer to complete specific tasks or "kapers". Kapers may include sweeping, setting tables, helping with meal prep, putting up the flag, keeping tissue in the bathrooms, etc. Kapers and procedures will be explained at the first meal. Jobs done by a lot of people are completed quickly. Insurance Requirements:Since Girl Scout insurance covers Women’s Camp, all participants must be enrolled as Adult Scouts. G.S. registration includes the period October 1st through September 30th of every calendar year.
If you are not currently a registered Adult Girl Scout, please add $12.00 to your total camp fee. G.S. registration forms will be provided at check-in and your registration will be with the Girl Scouts of Maine. This does not obligate you in any way. |
